Fort Smith, AR
First off, its January. We also have a little over a 1 month year old. Cabin fever has set in!! We jumped into the car with the intention of getting gas station food. You know the good fried food, pizza pockets, potato wedges. The stuff you really shouldn't eat but its oh so good! We mad our way south of town to a country gas station that we knew would be the beat place. (Andy's on 64 hwy south of Muskogee) As we sat in the parking lot, wanting to go somewhere we haven't been, but somewhat close. Pulled out the good ol' google maps and finally figured out how close we are to Ft. Smith, AR. (How we never knew this, I have no idea) So we point the car in the right direction and head off.
As you get into Ft. Smith, you go over the Arkansas river. Then boom your there, literally. Oklahoma farm lands and a junk yard on one side, Ft Smith amphitheater and fairs weal on the other.
As we had never been there before we were not expecting nor prepared to be entering downtown strip at that exact moment. So we drove around to find a place to park. By the way they have free parking for a few hours next to the fairs weal!
We got out and walked around. This is also off season (January remember) The stores are open, but the trolie, and kids place are not running.
We make our way over to the visitors center. Its behind the kids place and next to the amphitheater. Its also what used to be a brothel.... so as an amazing joke, we took our 1 month old out of the state to a brothel, we are cool parents!! No we did not know any of this information until after the visit, however we did go on the tour of the place to learn some amazing history of not only the building, but the town as well. Would recommend this to anyone who stops by!
From here we headed over the national cemetery.
We were told about an amazing park that has walking trails and were trying to find it but our game was off. Stopped at the mall for a walk around in a clement control area.
Went back over to Park at West End to have a burger in a train car, so good!!
At this point its starting to get dark and we need to get baby boy home. He has had a big day for his first out of town outing!
Travel on!!
