Colorado Springs, CO (part 3 of 3)
Day 8 June 7th
Drive to Amarillo, TX
Wake up. Pack up. A quick bite to eat. One last stop at Kangaroo Coffee and on the road we go! So long Colorado Springs
We stopped at the last rest stop before exciting Colorado for a quick stretch before heading onto New Mexico.
Hello New Mexico!!
Stopped at the New Mexico visited center that has a Santa Fe train engine.
Now onto the long road that leads to the Capulin Volcano National Monument. Can't miss it!!
This was so much fun to go see. With a quick lunch at the base of the volcano, then a drive up to the top
At the top, there is an amazing view, with markers of what you are looking at. You can also take two different trails. One around the rim of the volcano pit, the other takes you to the center of the pit.
After seeing all we could see it was back in the car and on our way to Amarillo.
Hello Texas!
Cadillac Ranch. I don't know how many times inhave passed this as a child on family vacations and we never stopoed to as it. I was not going to drive right by it again and nit stop again! So glad we did!
There is also a museum about half a mile east of the ranch as you go into Amarillo. It shows the history of the cars and how they came to be the legends that they are!
Found our hotel and lucky for us there was a cicis pizza within walking distance.
We all crashed as soon as we git back to our room.
Day 8 June 9th
Drive back home
Pack it back up. Grab breakfast from the hotel and hit the Friday morning traffic in Amarillo.
We made a pitstop at a visitor center outside the city to let the morning commute due down and check out the cattle display!
On the road again! We make our way over to Groom, TX to see the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ Ministries. You know you are getting closer when the HUGE cross starts getting bigger on the horizon!
Hello Oklahoma.
Stop for lunch in Weatherford and swung over to the Nutopia Nuts n More shop. Here we also found pickles and had to place them in the sunshine. The story behind this, Shawn and Jacob (age 2 1/2) were talking with each other at the beginning of our trip and kept talking about pickles and sunshine. Anytime we went anywhere and Jacob did want to go, we would ask if he wanted pickles and sunshine. His whole attitude would change and the would get all happy saying "puckles and sunshine" over and over!
We had such a great time and made so many memories. Can't wait to go back and see even more next time.
Travel on!
