Mini Road Trip Vacation
Shawn and I had taken a class trip down to Lawton, OK a few years back and had always talked about taken the boys! Now was a good time. So we planned a little road trip our of it.
Oh and its February!!
Day 1
Oklahoma City
Up and at it somewhat early. It was about a 2 hour drive to the City. We stopped in Checotah for some breakfast. Then headed on our way!
First stop is the OKC Zoo! This place is huge!!
But we had so much fun! Some of the animals we were not able to see because it was still winter. But we still went all over the rest!
After the Zoo we went and found our Hotel we had already booked.
Off the Brick Town.
We had dinner at Toby Keith's Bar & Grill!! Sooooo much food
Walk around Brick Town. We were wanting to take a ride on the water Taxi but it was closed for the season.
Back to the hotel for the night. We did a lot of walking around and have a drive ahead of us for the morning!
Now about 3am we had a group of rowdy people (bars are all now shutting down) woke everyone up. We turned on the TV to drown them out.
Day 2
Lawton, OK
Rise and shine at 7 am. Now I'm not saying bang on the walls but don't worry about being quite kids! Had some breakfast, pack up the car, and headed out!
Oh and hello snow!!
Good by city and hello mountains!!
Now for those that don't know. Oklahoma only has one actual Mountain, Mt. Scott. Has lots of really big hills but only one mountain!
First stop Medicine Park!
Their is a little river and a small waterfall
Up next is the Parallel Forest! This is man made. They were growing the trees to use as telephone poles. But something happens somewhere and they didn't use them all. Now its a totally cool thing to go see!!
Lunch time. If you are ever in the area, I'm talking like an hour or some from this place. You have to go eat the Meers Restaurant!!! The wait is going to a little long but oh so worth it. While waiting the kids kept asking if it was worth it... they said ohhh yeah after they had the food!!! All home grown, hand made burgers, bread, fries, and ice cram!! What's not to like!
After lunch we went over to the Holy City.
Found this totally awesome castle looking thing.
Now when we were here a few years back there is a section of the mount range the we went hike through. We came across a map from someone else who let us have it (thank you who ever you are) and found the area!!
Took the boys all over it! So much fun. Even showed the boys where Shawn and I had our first "date" as we like to call it!!
Last stop. To the top of Mt. Scott or as Brandon kept calling it Mt. Scotch!!
Its a steep incline and if you are going to drive it PLEASE don't stomp on the break when you have a line of cars behind you. Yes its pretty, but this not the place to stop and take pictures from. That's what the top is for. You can see 360° and nothing hinders your view! Trust me!!
Wow!! What a view!!
We headed down before the sun got too low. Made our way into Lawton to find our hotel.
Lucky for us Crackle Barrel was right next door ish (we drove because at this point our legs are almost walked off)
Bed time.
I don't even remember falling asleep, the boys were all laughing at the tv and then its all sunny outside and our alarms are going off!!
Day 3
Turner falls then home!
Up and at it!! A little drive to the nest stop! No one had been to Turner Falls. So this was a complete new experience for everyone!
Turner falls is home to 1 of 2 of Oklahoma natural waterfalls! Oh and a castle!!
Before we went into the falls area there is a lookout point. Very beautiful view!
Into the falls area.
They have a really cool pathway and waterslide at the base of the entrance.
You park and then walk a few yards into the falls area. But before you get there, there is this castle looking thing. And like 200 steps to the top!
Once your at the top there is a steep access roadway that leads to a little picnic area that looked like a really good place to take a moment before headed back down!
Once back at the bottom we went oved to the falls!
Back to the car, we drove up to the top. There is a hiking ish area that takes you to the top of the falls.
Even has a little cave you can, or have to, crawl into.
Back in the car we drove around the top area where they have camping areas and came across a stop sign that had our name on it!
We make our way over to Davis and grab a pizza before heading home!
Lots of hiking and very sore legs. But totally worth every bit of it!!
Travel on!!
